Information partnership programme (IPP)
The existing health and social care information services and business intelligence market is perceived to be under-developed, served through a combination of competing in-house services and specialist businesses.
The government points to the lack of information and business intelligence as a key factor slowing the pace of service-improvement. Through a range of initiatives, government seeks to expand the information services market and enable NHS and social care organisations to improve the services and outcomes for patients, clients and their families.
We are responsible for improving access to data for national purposes. We therefore have a strategic role to play in developing and supporting the information market.
Opportunities
The care system is facing challenging times with unprecedented levels of funding coupled with significant re-configuration and levels of innovation.
Information is critical to these changes and must be accessible to enable improved decision making by:
- patients exercising choice
- service teams to meet health needs
- organisations to manage effectively
- government departments and agencies to develop and implement effective policy.
With this in mind The IC has identified ten priority objectives and we would like to discuss how working together could:
- support successful commissioning
- improve information to support meaningful choice
- improve the quality and usability of comparable information
- streamline data collections
- improve access to national comparative data
- negotiate access to reference datasets beyond health and social care
- stimulate the market in disseminating and promoting the use of national comparative information
- promote the value of good information
- improve information on social care
- improve information about the general population's attitude, behaviours and decisions.
How we can help you succeed
We have responsibility for national information products, collections, dissemination and requirements definition.
We know how the system works from beginning to end and can help your business understand the context, governance and limitations of the existing system.
This will help your organisation get to where it needs to be quicker, at a lower cost and with solutions which are more likely to meet customer needs first time.
What we hope to gain
As a government-funded organisation we are not measured by our profitability. Our success is marked by the improvement of care services, and its users' experience, as a result of the information we supply.
These improvements can't be achieved from the centre or by one organisation alone. We recognise the value of collaboration and partnership with organisations that work closely with those involved with service-delivery. In helping you to succeed, we are helping ourselves, and improving the NHS and social care systems for everyone.
