Review of Population Based Health - Related Surveys
Between 9 January and 14 March 2008, The NHS Information Centre invited responses to a consultation on the future of its survey programme. View the consultation document. The deadline for responses has now passed and the consulation is closed.
The NHS Information Centre is grateful for the numerous responses received. Our consultants have now summarised the responses. View the report.
The NHS Information Centre has given initial consideration to the views expressed in the consultation, especially regarding the Health Survey for England (HSE). One clear message related to users' needs for a HSE in 2009. As a result, we will be taking forward a limited core survey in 2009 and will consider other comments received when taking forward options for a HSE for 2010 onwards. Further information on the longer-term development of HSE and the role of the IC in relation to the survey programme will be provided in due course.
Additionally, as a result of funding being made available by the Department of Health, we will be taking forward an Adult Dental Health Survey (ADHS) in 2009. Further information on this will also be made available in due course. We are grateful to those who responded to the consultation, and we will provide a further update on developments by the end of July 2008.
