In response to the government's commitment to transparency and open data, the NHS IC is releasing the underlying data for all of our statistical publications. This data will be available to download at www.data.gov.uk and through our publications pages.

Since 2011 the NHS IC has made 680 datasets available and is working with the public and private sector to enable value added use of this data.

In his letter to cabinet ministers regarding transparency, the Prime Minister has made a number of commitments to greater data transparency in government.

These commitments include the release of data, under the terms of the Open Government Licence, on:

• Comparative clinical outcomes of GP practices in England (in December 2011)
• Prescribing by GP practice (on 14 December 2011)
• Complaints, by NHS hospital (already available)
