Note for users of data on depression ‘prevalence'

QOF includes a register for patients diagnosed with depression, to underpin the Depression 2 indicator. Although the indicator definition does not refer to patient age, the QOF business rules define this register to include only patients who are aged 18 and over. In the prevalence data tables a ‘prevalence rate' is shown, but note that this is calculated as numbers on depression registers (who are aged 18 and over) as a percentage of the total practice lists.
