Clinical prevalence by practice (all clinical areas based on whole practice lists)

For five clinical areas, QOF registers are based on patients within specific age groups. Diabetes registers are based on patients aged 17 and over; epilepsy, chronic kidney disease and learning disabilities registers are based on patients aged 18 and over; and obesity registers are based on patients aged 16 and over.

Estimates of prevalence rates for these five clinical areas have been calculated in respect of practice list sizes for the appropriate age groups.

Domain summary

Note: diabetes prevalence

Following a review of data collated by the Information Centre, the Department of Health has identified some changes in practice diabetes registers from 2005/06 to 2006/07.

An observed drop in recorded diabetes prevalence in some practices may have been due to some changes to read codes used to record QOF diabetes registers from April 2006.

The following spreadsheet provides information on changes to practice diabetes registers between the two years, and is intended to help PCTs wishing to investigate further, and to help PCTs to support practices in coding patients with diabetes.
