Zero Based Review of Social Care Data

Introduction to the review

In Autumn 2010, the Strategic Improving Information Programme (a joint initiative between the Department of Health (DH), The Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS), the NHS Information Centre (the NHS IC), Care Quality Commission (CQC) and the Local Government Association (LGA)) launched a 'Zero Based Review' of adult social care data needs for the future.

Initial consultations supported the need to align national data collection with other developments across the sector, and further work was commissioned to develop and refine the requirements for a national data set.

The Outcomes and Information Development Board (OIDB), which has superseded the SIIP, now has oversight of this work, with the NHS IC commissioned to lead on it. This work is being conducted alongside and as part of the DH work on Quality and Outcomes.
