Adult social care information development

The Department of Health white paper 'Our Health, Our Care, Our Say: A New Direction for Community Services,' published in January 2006, heralded a move to providing community-based services and a greater emphasis on social care.

In October 2006 the Department for Communities and Local Government launched 'Strong and Prosperous Communities', which sets out plans for strengthening leadership and devolving power to local government.

An increasing volume of care is being delivered closer to home of which social care is a crucial part. Direct payments are giving people choice over the care that they receive. And, as most people receiving social care need some kind of healthcare too, providers are working to make services ever more joined up.

These changes in policy and service provision must be underpinned by effective and efficient information. Information will be essential in enabling service providers to plan, deliver and monitor new services.

A core part of our business

Developing adult social care information is a key part of The Information Centre's business. We want to create adult social care information that will support delivery of the new vision for adult social care.

We want to make information available that will help councils to plan, commission, deliver and monitor services. Good information helps councils deliver the best care they can.

These pages tell you more about what The Information Centre is doing to create social care information that's timely, relevant and responsive to need.
