Measuring outcomes for service users

Across the UK, the four countries are working to put people at the heart of social care information. Information is of most use when it gives the whole picture of a persons care. This means providers can measure both outputs and outcomes: whether there was a positive result to treatment.

The Adult Care Information Network has published A View on Outcomes, which explores how to develop more meaningful information on the effectiveness of an individuals care. A range of outcome measures are being considered across the UK. These include tracking individuals in Northern Ireland, and developing an outcome-based performance framework in England.
