Primary Care Information Service (PRIMIS+)

PRIMIS+ helps GP practices monitor their data. Using the PRIMIS+ tools, they can benchmark their data against other anonymised GP practices at local, regional or national levels.

What is PRIMIS+?

A service providing data quality and information management training and support tools.

The service users are information facilitators and other staff directly employed and funded by primary care trusts or local health informatics services.

The service is free to primary care organisations.

What are the benefits of PRIMIS+?

GP practices benefit from the the support of trained facilitators. Specifically via:

  • training in data quality recording and how to use records effectively on clinical IT systems in primary care
  • checking overall data quality i.e. for the Information Management and Technology Directed Enhanced Service (IM&T DES), and in specific areas such as management of heart attacks
  • comparisons of data quality with other practices via Care and Health Analysis in Real Time (CHART) Online
  • practical support for planning improvements to the quality of their clinical records
  • extracting data for essential central information, including flu immunisation
  • support for accreditation of standards of data quality
  • access to regional training and networking events and an annual national conference.

What else does PRIMIS+ provide?

  • the free data analysis tools CHART and CHART Online, together with training on their use.
  • training tools and modules which cover a wide range of topics specific to primary care and the National Programme for IT, such as:
    • GP2GP
    • The Systematised Nomenclature of Medicine Clinical Terms (SNOMED CT)
    • practice-based commissioning
    • information governance
    • IM&T DES.
