Using PCT information to contact study members

Where a study subject is registered with a GP, we may be able to tell you which Primary Care Trust (PCT) they fall under. This is usually for the purpose of contacting individuals via the PCT and then GP.

If you intend to contact your study members in this way, you will need to send them appropriately worded letters, to explain about your research. It is important to clearly explain the process of how the person is to be contacted. You will need to contact individuals via their PCT and GP who may forward letters on your behalf. It is voluntary for the PCT and GP to do so.

If you are doing this, you will need to send us copies of these letters as part of your application.

Any study requesting PCT information will need to be fully explained and supported by ethical approval.
