IQI indicators and the NHS Outcomes Framework
The Indicators for Quality Improvement are arranged by the quality dimensions set out in High Quality Care for All, which set out commitments to make quality the organising principle of the NHS. These dimensions are Safety, Effectiveness and Patient Experience.
The NHS Outcomes Framework, published in December 2010, introduced a framework structured around the five outcome domains below:
| Domain | ||
| 1 | Preventing people from dying prematurely | Effectiveness |
| 2 | Enhancing quality of life for people with long-term conditions | Effectiveness |
| 3 | Helping people to recover from episodes of ill health or following injury | Effectiveness |
| 4 | Ensuring that people have a positive experience of care | Patient Experience |
| 5 | Treating and caring for people in a safe environment and protecting them from avoidable harm | Safety |

The first NHS Outcomes Framework sets out the outcomes and corresponding indicators that will be used to measure how the NHS Commissioning Board delivers outcomes through commissioning health services from 2012/13.
