GPES Independent Advisory Group (IAG)
GPES customer requirements will be considered by an Independent Advisory Group (IAG) that includes members of the public and representatives from General Practice.
Role
Acting as an advisory group to the GPES Business Unit, the IAG will consider requests for information from customers that could be collected and provided by GPES and recommend an appropriate course of action to the Information Centre.
To fulfil this role the IAG will receive and consider “IAG packs” from the Information Centre. Each pack will include a customer requirement summary, an Information Governance assessment carried out by the Information Centre and a benefits plan.
The minutes and recommendations will be published after each IAG meeting.
Objectives
The IAG will:
- Review the IAG pack.
- Confirm that the request is consistent with the GPES Information Governance Principles (pdf 234KB) and specifically whether the IAG agrees with the Information Centre's classification of each customer requirement.
- Consider the risks and benefits in order to assess whether the extraction is in their view appropriate and in the public interest.
- Recommend one of the following possible courses of action for each data extraction request:
recommendation to proceed;
- recommendation to proceed subject to further approvals;
- recommendation to proceed subject to changes;
- or recommendation of further consideration or to make significant changes.
Membership
There will be nine members of the IAG:
- An independent Chair
- Three lay members
- One academic ethicist
- Two nominated members of the Primary Health Care Specialist Group of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT (one GP and one non-clinician)
- One nominated member of the Royal College of General Practitioners
- One nominated member of the British Medical Association
