One thousand indicators covering a wide range of population health topics have been bought together in the NHS Information Centre's new indicator portal.

In its first release, it contains all the public health indicators previously available in the Clinical and Health Outcomes Knowledge Base (the Compendium), and the Local Basket of Indicators. It also contains the new Summary Hospital Mortality Indicator (SHMI), which sets the standard for reporting mortality at hospital level across the NHS.

New sets of indicators will be added to the indicator portal over time, allowing users to access a variety of data all in one place. The indicator portal is a valuable information resource for all health and social care professionals and can help organisations to compare their local area with other regions and national averages.
