Defining the data required to provide information leading to knowledge for care.

The National Datasets Service undertakes the co-ordination, development, adoption and ongoing maintenance of national datasets in England.

The programme of work is driven by the need for quality information to support planning, delivery and monitoring of services within health and social care.

In particular, the development of datasets supports:

  • information requirements of national and local performance management, planning, commissioning and clinical governance
  • assurance of the quality of health and social care services
  • the monitoring of National Service Frameworks (NSFs).

The National Datasets Service is an experienced team and comprises of a programme manager, project managers, maintenance and testing managers, business analysts and project support.
