Guide to information
Find out about our routinely available information.
What is a guide to information?
This is to reduce duplication and bureaucracy and to ensure consistency in the release of information, Section 19 of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act places a legal obligation on all public authorities to have in place a guide to information.
The guide is a description of all the classes or categories of information that a public authority should make routinely available - this covers information that we publish or intend to publish. Each class of information states the form in which the information is published and whether there is any charge attached.
The new model scheme
In line with section 20 of the Act, the Information Commissioner has approved a new model publication scheme which should be adopted by all public authorities and was effective from 1 January 2009. To assist authorities in preparing for adoption and operation of the scheme and to ensure they publish in accordance with it, guidance has been produced and is available at www.ico.gov.uk.
